Care Guide
Made to last,
cared for properly.
A few simple habits will keep your Cushique looking beautiful for years. Here's how.
The Essentials
Four habits, worth the effort.
01
Fluff daily, rotate weekly.
A quick fluff and a turn keeps fills from compacting and evens the wear. Five seconds a day adds years to a cushion's life.
02
Keep out of direct sun.
UV fades natural fibres — especially linen, velvet, and silk. If a cushion sits in a sunny spot, rotate it with others every few weeks.
03
Treat spills quickly.
Blot — never rub — with a clean white cloth. The faster you act, the less likely a stain sets. See fabric-specific advice below.
04
Vacuum monthly.
A gentle pass with an upholstery attachment lifts dust and dander before they settle into the weave. Low suction for delicate fabrics.
By Fabric
Specific care, by material.
Each textile has its own rhythm. Tap any fabric below for detailed care.
Velvet
Everyday: Brush gently in the direction of the pile with a soft clothes brush once a month. Vacuum on low suction with an upholstery attachment.
Spot care: Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry white cloth — working from the outside in. Never rub. For water-soluble stains, lightly dab with a cloth dampened with cool water and a tiny amount of pH-neutral soap. Let air dry, then brush the pile back into direction.
Avoid: Direct sunlight, heat sources, and pressure marks from heavy objects. Velvet pile can crush — once crushed, it's hard to fully restore.
Deep clean: Professional upholstery cleaning only. Do not machine wash or dry clean at home.
Linen
Everyday: Vacuum monthly. Linen naturally softens and develops character over time — light wrinkling is part of its charm.
Spot care: Blot spills with a clean cloth. Water and a gentle soap work for most stains. Test on a hidden area first. Rinse with a damp cloth and blot dry.
Covers (if removable): Cold machine wash on delicate, gentle detergent, no bleach. Line dry or tumble dry low. Iron while slightly damp for a crisper finish, or leave natural.
Avoid: Hot washes, harsh detergents, and prolonged sun exposure.
Silk
Everyday: Dust with a soft, dry cloth. Silk is delicate — treat it gently. Keep well away from direct sunlight, which fades it quickly.
Spot care: Silk is one of the trickiest fabrics. For minor dry dust or lint, dab with tape. For any liquid spill, blot very gently with a dry white cloth and consult a professional cleaner as soon as possible.
Cleaning: Always professional dry clean. Never wet clean at home — water can leave permanent marks on silk.
Bouclé
Everyday: Vacuum monthly on low suction, using an upholstery attachment. The loop structure traps dust — gentle regular vacuuming prevents buildup.
Spot care: Blot — never rub — spills with a dry cloth. For stubborn spots, use cool water and a neutral soap very sparingly. Rubbing can pull the loops and distort the texture.
Avoid: Velcro, jewellery, pet claws — anything that can snag the loops. If a loop pulls loose, trim flush with sharp scissors rather than tugging.
Cotton Sateen
Everyday: Vacuum monthly. The smooth, lustrous finish resists everyday dust well.
Spot care: Blot with a clean, damp cloth and mild soap. Work from the edge of the stain inward. Rinse with a water-dampened cloth and blot dry.
Covers (if removable): Cool machine wash on delicate. Line dry or tumble low to preserve the sheen. Iron on the reverse side while slightly damp.
Outdoor Weave
Everyday: Built to live outdoors — UV-stable and mildew-resistant. Brush off debris occasionally and hose down as needed.
Spot care: Most stains come out with warm water, mild soap, and a soft brush. Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue and air dry fully.
Off-season: Store dry, away from damp. While the fabric tolerates weather well, keeping cushions covered or indoors in harsh seasons extends their lifespan considerably.
When Things Go Wrong
The spill survival guide.
Red wine
Blot immediately with a dry white cloth. Don't use salt or soda water — they can push colour deeper. Professional cleaning is your safest bet within 24 hours.
Coffee or tea
Blot with a dry cloth, then dab with cool water and a drop of dish soap. Rinse the spot by blotting with a clean damp cloth. Let air dry fully.
Grease or oil
Sprinkle cornstarch or talcum powder on the spot, leave 15 minutes, then vacuum. Repeat if needed. For anything stubborn, bring in a professional.
Ink or makeup
Don't DIY. These stains are unpredictable on natural fibres. Call a professional upholstery cleaner as soon as possible — the sooner they treat it, the better the outcome.
When in doubt, always test on a hidden corner first, and stop if the fabric reacts.
